2010-08-12 Calgary mayoral debate at Filipino community forum. The "NonAiptek" file is a combination of tripod camera and handheld camera... whenever handheld was useless, I cut to tripod. But it is not tightened up the way the YouTube edit is: www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-qZIwjygRM The YouTube edit is indexed at http://gordonmcdowell.com , so any candidate can be skipped to.

Brief introduction to LFTR and Thorium. Restrictive CC license selected because this material is all really (C)2009 Google. I just need somewhere to host the files. There are Alberta specific edits, which contain bookends ("LFTR to power crude oil extraction from oil sands") and generic edits. 3 lengths of each type (bookended and not). The 2009 edits have been replaced with a 2011 feature length documentary on Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor, called THORIUM REMIX 2011 . A 2 hour...

City of Calgary's 2009 Carbon Summit , as captured for R4NT.com's article . If you simply want to watch the summit coverage, I'd recommend viewing the version edited for R4NT.com . It has the strongest narrative, and offers some teaser soundbites at the start. To review complete coverage (perhaps you want to watch a particular keynote in its entirety), then I have embedded a copy in my blog with functioning chapter stops , so that any single keynote can be quickly skipped to. The date of the...

Rally to support CBC in the face of lowered ad revenue. Calgarians concerned about CBC having to reduce local news coverage, and the 800 jobs which are on the line. This footage was shot for R4NT.com where you can find a copy of the finished project as a YouTube embed. (But IA also has a downloadable 1280x720 MPEG-4 copy .) I've uploaded the raw AVCHD 1440x1080i footage since anyone looking to compile a pro-CBC montage of support could likely put it to use. But the original capture's AVCHD...

Stock footage shot of myself running out of an Apple Store with a MacBook box. I'd bought the MacBook earlier for iPhone development, but when asking for permission to shoot in the store I was told they have a policy against that. Raw footage of Bill C-61 protesters attending Jim Prentice's Stampede Breakfast party. Show using an Aiptek 720p camera with built in mic. Footage is 1280x720 so reasonably sharp, but audio is not great due to built in microphone and lots of ambient (country) music. The video itself is H.264 encoded QuickTime. The footage here isn't entertaining or interesting enough to be viewed on its own, but could provide good cut-aways or b-roll for an anti C-61 video campaign. If you use the footage,...

While snorkeling in Cuba, took some shots of other divers using an underwater camera (320x240 M-JPEG QuickTime). Since most video hosting services (like YouTube or Flickr) don't make it convenient for other parties to download an use footage on their PCs, and Blip.TV is more convenient for hosting fewer edited shows than tons of raw footage... My original intent was to create a documentary about the Cuban economy, with the system described by English speaking Cubans. Sunset (in Cuba). Raw footage is 1080i MPEG-2 via a SONY HDR-HC1. I've sped up x16 and spread out the luminosity for the smaller versions. The MPEG-2 artifacts are not obvious in the 532 MB original capture , but increasing contrast and blending frames at x16 reveals a grid pattern. Check out OpenSourceVideo.BlogSpot.com for an index of stock footage and videos I've released under Creative Commons license.

While at a hot springs in Turkey, we were lounging under a tree when we spotted a dead bird crawling with ants. Four kids were using MacBooks outside a hotel in London. It looked pretty impressive, in a Steve Jobs alternate reality sort of way. I got a verbal ok to video tape them (no signed release forms). If anyone who knows them spots this, please forward so they can indicate if it is less ok to post this than in 2006-07 when I captured it.

Windows Media 1280x720 at x64 speed. QuickTime/MPEG-4 1280x720 at x64 speed. ...which should give you a good indication if the footage is of interest. Cory Ondrejka gave a lecture on 2006-09-13 on Second Life, and allowed me to video tape. This was originally for internal use by Cambrian House, but some other attendees asked if they could get a copy. Posting to IA seemed to be the easiest way to faciliate that. This is just raw footage, and IA isn't the most convenient platform for casual viewing, so I'll post to YouTube or GoogleVideo if enough people express interest in viewing.

Have received many requests for source footage used to create " 9/11 Chronology " (on 20041102.Last.Chance DVD). So I've simplified the split-screen to being a 2-way, with no timecode overtop, and no pop-up-video information. Probably the most basic I can reduce the footage to and still have some sense of it being recontextualized. The ideal aspect ratio for watching this footage is 8:3 (4:3 doubled horizontally). That's pretty close to 2.21:1 as I've tagged the MPEG-2. Computers seem...

Stock. Daytime. Misc shots I took around Vancouver in mid-90s on a Hi8 camera. Came across them recently while looking for other footage, the clouds looked pretty neat so I timelapsed them in AfterEffects and... well I think they look pretty neat. Amazing how crappy Hi8 footage can look quite clean when frames are blended together. The remaining shots (traffic, plane, bird) are poor quality, but figured I should upload them in same clip in case they might be useful to someone. The clouds were...

Stock. Evening. Canadian geese and goslings. I move towards them, they run away. Camera mounted on a "steadycam" built based on the design in Make01 magazine. Footage is upside down as I prefer to correct in post production rather then adding complexity to the steadycam. 1280x720x30p.

Static shot of downtown Calgary's cityscape. 20x timelapse and 100x timelapse. Motion in shot is clouds moving overhead, shadows they cast, and trees being blown by wind. Was shot at 1280x720x30p (16:9). There was minor camera movement in raw footage, which I corrected (best I could) using Adobe After Effects 6.5's motion tracker. End result is black borders around image occasionally move a bit into the frame. Certainly this footage can be cropped in on to provide 16:9 or 4:3 coverage at NTSC...
